There is evidence that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) spreads from person to person, some reports suggest the virus can last for several days on surfaces including plastics found in vehicles.

Good hygiene can prevent infection from coronavirus as well as the common cold and flu.

Fuel Tank Repair

car repairs

Lube Mobile, the Mobile Mechanics repair Fuel Tanks.

Wheather it has a leak, has rust or dirt inside, Lube Mobile can Help.

At Lube Mobile we offer fuel tank repair as one of our services. If your car is leaking a liquid near the rear of the car, it could be that you have a puncture in the fuel tank, or that one of the many connectors is malfunctioning. This can be very dangerous, and petrol is highly combustible, especially when it is in vapour form.

To check if it is petrol, you can smell the liquid. Petrol has a very distinctive smell, and anyone that has filled up a car should be familiar with it. If the dripping under your car smells like petrol you probably have a problem that needs to be repaired. Ideally you should not drive a car that has a leaking fuel tank. Your best option is to either have the car towed to a place that can repair the problem or call a mobile mechanic that can come to you. Hiring a mobile mechanic can save you money as you won’t need to pay for a tow to move your car or risk your safety by driving it.

If you seem to be going through more petrol (or diesel) than normal, but can’t see any actual signs of leaking, you might need the fuel system checked over and a fuel tank repair. Although there can be other reasons for excessive fuel consumption, such as poorly adjusted carburettors, you should have your fuel system inspected for any leaks. While fuel leaking when the car is stationary is a clear sign that something is wrong, fuel will often escape during driving as this is when it is pumped from the tank into the engine bay, and it is moving along the fuel lines. The most common place for fuel to leak is through the moving parts of the system, or by any of the joins.

Gas powered cars need to have their systems regularly inspected. Mechanics can do this with a gas detection device. This is a very sensitive tool that is designed specifically to check for gas leaks. At Lube Mobile we can perform this service for you, without the hassle of having to take your car to a mechanic.

How to Repair A Hole in The Fuel Tank?

In most cases a fuel tank repair can be completed quickly. For small holes and leaks an epoxy bonding agent can be used. The fuel tank will need to be drained of as much fuel as possible. The vehicle will need to be raised and a proper inspection performed to find the exact location of the leak. In some cases, it may be better to have a complete fuel tank replacement. Especially if the fuel tank is excessively worn and old.

Once the location is found and cleaned, the fuel tank repair can commence. A bonding epoxy will be mixed and applied to the site of the leak. Once it has dried, the area should be sanded until it is smooth to the touch. Then an inspection will be carried out, so the bond is correct and no longer leaking. This test may involve filling the fuel tank up and running the car. Once it has been established that there are no more leaks, the car can be lowered, and the job completed.

A properly repaired fuel tank using an epoxy sealant should last for many years. But it is a good idea to keep an eye on the car for any leaks. Having your car service completed by the same mechanic means they will know the history of the car and be able to perform these checks regularly.

How to Repair A Plastic Fuel Tank Leak?

Completing a fuel tank repair on a plastic tank is very similar to the repairs on a steel tank. However usually a different type of epoxy sealant will be used. In some cases, the repair can be performed while the tank is attached to the car. But, for best results it is better to remove the tank so a complete inspection and fuel tank service can be completed.

If you have a lot of damage to the plastic fuel tank, it may be better to have a fuel tank replacement. This way you are guaranteed that all problems will be fixed, and your tank will last you many years of motoring. Based on an inspection of the overall health of your fuel tank we can give you a recommendation on which is better for your vehicle.
